A Quiet Non-Touristy Tour in Dubrovnik

The second time we walked the Walls of Dubrovnik, I noticed places I wanted to explore, but could not figure out how to get to them.

How do I get up there under the arches where those walkways are?
That’s on the south side of the Walls.
How do I get out there on the rounded part of the wall and that rounded tower at the end?
How do I get down there between the walls where the green grass is?

Well in case you want to know, too, there is a Foundry Museum with an entrance at the base of Minčeta Tower (at top right of the photo above.). Minčeta Tower is the northern most point of Old Town, so I was surprised to find out that was the entrance to the place I was wanting to reach under the south wall!

From Pile Gate, it’s a 7 minute walk, mostly up stairs.

Walk in the Pile Gate. From the Stradun, make a left onto Uliza ispod Minčete which literally translates to the street below Minčeta.
Keep climbing and climbing until you reach a basketball court on the left. Just beyond that you will see the entrance to the tower.

Enter the museum (included in the Dubrovnik Pass) at the base of Minčeta tower. You pass through tunnels inside the walls, and into the foundry museum. The museum is great, though I do not include it here, and has extremely clean restrooms.

After the museum, you come out between the two walls, pass Pile Gate, climb through Bokar Tower and then pass under the Walls to the ruins below the Walls in the top photo on this page.

I enjoyed this walking tour immensely! I spent between 90 minutes and two hours walking out and back and in that entire time, I encountered two other tourists walking together. In a town slammed with tourists daily, this was a lovely photo shoot, and a quiet respite from the hustle and bustle of the rest of Old Town.

FIVE stars! I highly recommend!

Around the Wall in 80 Frames ~ Dubrovnik, Croatia

Early on September 5, 2017, my fiancé and I walked the walls of Dubrovnik and I shot 368 images of islands and fortresses and tiled roofs and sparkling sea.  These 80 are my favorites and give the viewer a virtual tour.  If you can’t climb the stairs to stroll around the spectacular views of Dubrovnik’s Old Town for yourself, take this virtual tour, Around the Wall in 80 Frames.  If you like the tour, please leave a comment so I know you were here!

Enjoy!

Photo taken from bridge to entry gate. The rounded piece on the right end is Bokar Fortress which dates from the 15th century.

We entered the Walls of Dubrovnik near the Pile Gate and headed toward the sea, chasing views of Lovrijenac Fortress.  The Dubrovnik City Walls Walk web page describes the tour in the same direction if you are interested in learning more about the beautiful buildings you see on the tour.  It has a lot of ads to scroll past, but a lot of interesting info as well.

Every tour starts somewhere. Ours starts at the bottom of these stairs.
