Don\u2019t believe me?\u00a0 Let\u2019s say for example that you have been let go from a job you love, through no fault of your own.\u00a0 Some people think being fired causes the emotions that follow, but the situation is ALWAYS neutral.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The situation is not good or bad, it simply is.<\/strong>  The story we attach to the situation causes us to see it as positive or negative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Our thoughts cause our emotions.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The thoughts we choose cause the emotions that follow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>*Neutral Situation = employment status<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Thought choice # 1 <\/strong>&#8211; <strong>Negative thoughts:<\/strong> Oh my God!\u00a0 I got fired! What will I do for money?\u00a0 I have no savings and it might be months before I find a job!\u00a0 How dare they let me go after all I have given this company!\u00a0 Why is this happening to me?\u00a0 I\u2019ll probably never find a job that pays this well again.\u00a0 WHAT will I do without benefits?\u00a0 What will people think?\u00a0 I\u2019ve been fired from a job I love!\u00a0 This is the end of the world.\u00a0 I can\u2019t believe they would do this to me!\u00a0 I\u2019ll be out of money before I find work!\u00a0 This is a disaster!\u00a0 What will I tell my family?!\u00a0 This is the WORST time to be unemployed!\u00a0 I need to take the FIRST thing I can find so I can pay my bills, no matter how awful it is or how miserable it makes me.\u00a0 This is terrible, terrible news!<br><strong>Emotions created by thoughts<\/strong> &#8211; fear, anxiety, frustration<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>*Neutral Situation = employment status<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Thought choice # 2<\/strong> &#8211; <strong>Positive thoughts:<\/strong> What a wonderful opportunity to find work that I am passionate about!\u00a0 This seems like just the right time to move on to bigger things.\u00a0 I have no idea what comes next for my career, but it\u2019s going to be wonderful!\u00a0 I am embarking on the next segment of my ever-improving professional life!\u00a0 What do I want to do next?\u00a0 What really excites me?\u00a0 This is so unexpected and delightful!\u00a0 I feel like a door has opened to a room FULL of opportunity!\u00a0 There is a purpose to everything.\u00a0 I think something wonderful is about to unfold!\u00a0  What PERFECT timing for something new and exciting!<br><strong>Emotions created by thoughts<\/strong> &#8211; excitement, hope, enthusiasm<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How can there be such different emotional outcomes from the SAME situation?\u00a0 <strong>The situation is neutral &#8211; it cannot cause emotions.\u00a0<\/strong> <br>The thoughts we CHOOSE to think cause the emotions we feel. Period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"614\" src=\"http:\/\/cyndicombs.com\/coaching\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/balance-1024x614.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3153\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cyndicombs.com\/coaching\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/balance-1024x614.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/cyndicombs.com\/coaching\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/balance-300x180.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cyndicombs.com\/coaching\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/balance-768x461.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cyndicombs.com\/coaching\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/balance.jpg 1500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>It requires some effort to improve our thoughts, but it\u2019s totally worth it because, here\u2019s the kicker;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Our emotions drive our actions.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>We sometimes think that our actions are based on our logical thoughts.\u00a0 If that were true, we would all be fit and active because logically we KNOW that eating right and staying active keeps us healthy, happy, and living longer.\u00a0 We frequently set intentions to eat healthier options, or to increase our activity levels.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>But what usually happens when we \u201cdon\u2019t feel like it\u201d?<\/strong>  <br>Does that feeling drive the action, or is it the logical decision we have made to eat right and work out?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Right?\u00a0<\/strong> Nine times out of ten \u201cnot feeling like it\u201d trumps our healthy intentions and we end up on the couch watching Netflix with a bag of potato chips instead of going for a walk or making a salad.\u00a0 To create new actions that align with our intentions, we want to think thoughts that <strong>cause the emotions<\/strong> required to drive our actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In other words, instead of just thinking whatever thoughts you normally think that result in the actions you normally take, decide what actions you WANT to take, and then figure out what kind of thoughts will drive you to those actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>For example, <\/strong>let\u2019s say that our intention is to be active for 20 minutes after work, and eat a salad once a day toward our goal of being more healthy and fit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Possible Thoughts and Probable Outcomes<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>I need to lose weight, so I have to take action.<br>I HAVE to find a way to be more active and eat right.<br>The last thing I want to do after a long day is work out!<br>I get so TIRED of making salad every day!<br>I\u2019ve tried and failed to lose weight my whole life! \u00a0<br>This never gets easier.<br>Why bother?<br>Who cares?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>PROBABLY<\/strong> not going to motivate anyone off the couch and away from the frozen pizza that\u2019s fast, easy, and calling their name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those thoughts are easy to come by.\u00a0 They pop into mind with no trouble at all, bringing with them all variety of doubts, second guessing and even more unhelpful, demotivating thoughts.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"614\" src=\"http:\/\/cyndicombs.com\/coaching\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/butterfly-1024x614.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3154\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cyndicombs.com\/coaching\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/butterfly-1024x614.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/cyndicombs.com\/coaching\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/butterfly-300x180.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cyndicombs.com\/coaching\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/butterfly-768x461.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cyndicombs.com\/coaching\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/butterfly.jpg 1500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What will change if we try thoughts like these?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I want to feel energized, so I am taking action!\u00a0 <br>I ENJOY the way I feel when I move my body every day!\u00a0 <br>I enjoy finding new ingredients to make salads interesting.<br>The last thing I want is to feel worn down.<br>Staying active keeps my energy high!\u00a0 <br>Chopping salad honors my health and brings me closer to my goal!\u00a0 <br>It takes less time to make salad than it does to earn money for pizza!<br>One small step each day leads to my success!<br>Today is the only day I need to focus on.\u00a0 <br>I make the effort because I want vibrant health and well being!<br>I have learned a LOT from past attempts, and can avoid pitfalls.\u00a0 <br>This time I am determined and will stop for nothing!<br>I have listed all obstacles that have prevented me from reaching my goal in the past, and created a strategy to deal with each one.<br>THIS is the way I reach my goals! \u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>These thoughts take slightly more effort to conjure and require PRACTICE.<\/strong>\u00a0 They pop out of mind much more easily than they pop in, but they are worth the effort because they bring with them <br>1) confidence that you can reach your goal, 2) courage to keep trying even if things don\u2019t go exactly as planned, and 3) more thoughts that keep you feeling encouraged and moving forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s easy to see that these thoughts have a better chance of motivating a person away from the pizza and onto the elliptical, right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"614\" src=\"http:\/\/cyndicombs.com\/coaching\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/choices-1024x614.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3155\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cyndicombs.com\/coaching\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/choices-1024x614.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/cyndicombs.com\/coaching\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/choices-300x180.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cyndicombs.com\/coaching\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/choices-768x461.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cyndicombs.com\/coaching\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/choices.jpg 1500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">So what TEA am I brewing?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>TEA = Thoughts.&nbsp; Emotions.&nbsp; Actions.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thoughts cause emotions.&nbsp; Emotions drive actions. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To drive the actions we WANT, we need to choose thoughts that generate the emotions that drive us in the direction we want to go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI hate salad!\u201d drives us one way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI make salad daily to bring me into alignment with my intentions, and help reach my goals!\u201d drives us another way entirely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To reach the destination we desire, we need to find the driver (create the emotion) heading to that destination!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"614\" src=\"http:\/\/cyndicombs.com\/coaching\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/power-1024x614.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3156\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cyndicombs.com\/coaching\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/power-1024x614.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/cyndicombs.com\/coaching\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/power-300x180.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cyndicombs.com\/coaching\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/power-768x461.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cyndicombs.com\/coaching\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/power.jpg 1500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Grow on!<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>What TEA are you brewing?<br>What thoughts are keeping you from your goals?\u00a0 <br>What thoughts can you choose to practice instead?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>How we FEEL is always the direct result of what we think.
